- Abstract
The much-travelled and anonymous author of People and Places suffered harassment by friends and relations for old correspondence. He was 'not apparently addicted to stamps, yet his residence in distant lands led to his persecution by those who were' - so much so that he felt driven to include a chapter on stamps in his book. Travel and travelling friends were a great boon to collectors.
